The day is going off to a horrible start.

In my civics class rn and some person just starts silently sobbing. The teacher doesn't notice at all and I'm trying to find ways to give some reassurance but the classroom is silent, and i cant just ask if they're ok cuz then it will get everyone's attention and prob make them feel worse. The best i could do was send them an email and hand them a plush to help destress..i feel so bad. They responded to my email that they were upset about a comment the teacher put on their work and i don't know how to respond and make them feel better :(
