Coldplay

When listening to some bands, it is clear that they will not go down in history as synonyms of singularity, going back to music and themes previously listened to ad nauseam. If we add a certain compositional talent to sound vampirism, developed in warm, sophisticated, sensitive pop pieces predominantly acoustic and pleasant melodies, with quiet atmospheric passages assisted by melancholic but optimistic lyrics revealed with tearful vocals, we find ourselves facing one of the British groups most notorious of the early 21st century, Coldplay, a band with clear references: from Radiohead to Jeff Buckley, from The Verve to Pink Floyd, passing through Oasis, Belle & Sebastian, U2, Dave Matthews Band, Neil Young, The Beatles or Travis .

In the mid-1990s, the singer and pianist Chris Martin (born March 2, 1977), who was studying Ancient History, the guitarist Jon Auckland (born September 11, 1977), a student of Mathematics and Astronomy, and bassist Guy Berryman (born April 12, 1978), an engineering student, after meeting at University College London, they decided to form a rock group.

To complete the band they recruited a mutual friend, Anthropology student Will Champion (born July 31, 1978), who was given the position of drummer.

In 1998, after performing live in clubs, they managed to debut on record with the low-run EP “Safety” (1998), a work that was financed by their manager, Phil Harvey.

The EP, co-produced by Nikki Rosetti, managed to catch the attention of the New Musical Express journalist, who owned a record label called Fierce Panda, where they released the EP “Brothers and Sisters” (1999).

This work led them to Parlophone Records, where they released the EP "The Blue Room" (1999), an album containing two songs that would later appear on their debut album, "High Speed" and "Don't Panic".

“Parachutes” (2000), presented with the single “Shiver” and co-produced by Ken Nelson, was the name chosen for their first LP, a work praised by the British press and important radio disc jockeys who promoted the smooth and refined music of the band, reaching number 1 in the UK thanks to hit singles like "Yellow" and "Trouble" and calm songs with dreamy melodies, warm and simple affective scenarios, introspective corners and hypnotic sound passages of acoustic hegemony and base piano.

Against him it can be affirmed that as a whole his songs suffer from repetition and few variants in their progression, resting on the atmospheric creation and the vocal emotion of his singer.

The band, hailed as the new star group of the moment in the British Isles, made the leap to the United States, where they achieved resonance when the song "Yellow" (number 6 on the Billboard) was used as a promotion for the television network ABC.

When they were doing a tour of American lands, it had to be canceled due to physical problems of Chris Martin.

Nelson was again the co-producer of “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” (2002), his second LP.

This work broadened his debut album in terms of textures, maintaining its keys of calm tempos, melodic beauty, intimate texts and sophistication without ostentatious affectation, although they also extended the meager diversification in the development of the themes, on the other hand quite derivative.

The album reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and number 5 in the United States, containing brilliant singles such as “In My Place”, “Clocks” or “The Scientist”.
