MTX - songs I used to dislike but don't anymore

This playlist is for the Mixtape Exchange group.

I hated country music on principle until around 2005, but I like some 80s and 90s country now.  (That includes a lot of songs that I didn't know existed in the 80s and 90s, but to keep with the theme of "songs I once disliked," all the 80s and 90s country music here are songs I definitely knew existed back then.)

My brother loved gangsta rap in its heyday, and I found it annoying.  And a few years after that, in the late 90s, there was a new style of pop music that I found just as annoying.  But a few of the more well known songs from that time period have grown on me for nostalgia purposes.

Songs that I don't have a specific story for below fit into those above categories.  I arranged them in approximate chronological order.

1. Michael Jackson - Bad.  I loved Michael Jackson in the Thriller era, and I loved him again by the Dangerous era, but in between, approximately corresponding to middle school, I went through a phase for a few years when I said I hated Michael Jackson.  I'm not sure exactly why, to be honest.
2. Randy Travis - Forever and Ever, Amen
3. George Strait - All My Ex's[sic] Live In Texas
4. Mike + the Mechanics - The Living Years.  In my early teens, I just thought this song was slow and boring.  At some point I grew up and listened to the lyrics and realized it's actually beautifully sad, and we all know by now I like beautifully sad songs.
5. R.E.M. - Stand.  I just thought this song was so weird that I found it really annoying at first.  R.E.M. grew on me a few years later during the Out of Time era.
6. Brooks & Dunn - Boot Scootin' Boogie
7. Alan Jackson - Don't Rock the Jukebox
8. Blind Melon - No Rain.  The story of why I hated this song for so long was found in the prologues of DLTDGB, episode 2 (click).  Eventually I just got over that incident.
9. Snoop Dogg - Gin and Juice
10. The Cranberries - Dreams.  I didn't like Dolores' voice at first.  It grew on me over the years to the point that this is now in my Best Songs Ever list.
11. Warren G and Nate Dogg - Regulate
12. Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know.  I disliked Alanis' voice far more than I ever did Dolores'.  I still do, kind of, but I dislike her less now for nostalgia purposes, and if I had to pick a favorite Alanis song, this would be it.  Of course, saying this is Alanis' best song is kind of like saying Butthead is smarter than Beavis, but still.
13. 2Pac and Dr. Dre -  California Love
14. Smashing Pumpkins - 1979.  Back in the day I thought this song was kind of annoying.  It doesn't bother me anymore.
15. Spice Girls - Wannabe
16. Hanson - MMMbop
17. Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way
18. Carbon Leaf - Cinnamindy.  I think I include Carbon Leaf on every playlist... this is one of the very few Carbon Leaf songs I really didn't like.  That changed a couple years ago when I stopped skipping it after seeing some people on a Facebook post in the Carbon Leaf group talking about this song.
19. Train - Save Me, San Francisco.  I know I said there would be a different song from this same album on my playlist, but I changed my mind because I have a better story for this one, and it has a hilarious (and relatable) music video.  When this song first came out, my first reaction was, ugh, another San Francisco song, why does everyone love that cold, crowded, far-left city so much, there are plenty of other better parts of California... but then one pleasant Sunday afternoon, I was at a Giants game, they played this song between innings, and everything just felt right with the world.
20. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe.  I first knew of this song through memes, and what little I had heard of it, it seemed like another annoying pop song.  Somehow the song came up in conversation once, and my friend said the music video was hilarious.  I watched it, and I was instantly hooked... one of my all time girly pop song guilty pleasures.  (I may or may not have bought every Carly album since that one... although I know she has some new music out this month that I haven't heard yet.)
