There's this new musician Scene Queen who makes metal and alt rock music with a trap edge and occasional silly lyrics, and her existence has really brought out the "women can't make metal" crowd full force.
First of all, before you comment "she doesn't make real metal"- if you haven't heard all her songs in full, shut up. You cannot judge a song by the 15 second clip you heard on tiktok. And if your opinion on her music is already biased then you cannot make a rational judgement anyways.
Second of all, she has never claimed that ALL her music is metal. She's never claimed to make heavy metal either, she's actually coined a new term for her music and it's "Bimbocore." so, hardcore bimbo. Totally fun.
Third of all, it's pretty clear that people's main reason for hating her is her silly lyrics (I have seen at least a dozen tiktoks mocking her for the lyric "twerkle pit, twerk in the circle pit" which IMHO is a funny play on words and not any more heinous than the lyrics to SOAD "Chic'n'stu" which was recently trending.) and her bimbo aesthetic. Clearly, seeing a woman confident enough to be sexual, queer, wear pink, and still make fun innovative metal tracks, is hurting everyone's superiority complexes.
Look, we've seen this happen before with bands like Babymetal- where women-led metal bands with an innovative sound are bullied by toxic metal fans who think their opinion fucking matters. It doesn't. And even Rob Zombie loves Babymetal.
The reality of metal music is that it's fucking boring when bands rerelease the same 5 basic ass songs just for the sake of toxic metal fans. If your genre is incapable of branching out, you've stagnated and you're forcing bands to sacrifice making ART for the sake of pleasing "fans".
Not to mention how diverse metal is already? Glam metal is not nu metal, nu metal is not black metal, black metal is not alternative metal, alternative metal is not metalcore. If you've comparing her to bands who have completely different metal concepts then of course they won't sound the same, they weren't TRYING to sound the same. "Metal" is just an umbrella term that encompasses all the metal subgenres.
And the metal communities have way bigger issues than "poser women"- like nazi bands, racism, and *AHEM* misogyny.
The worse part is that NOW pick-me metal women are posting their lists of "real women in metal to support" which is crazy because you do not uplift women by tearing down other women. And I don't think any woman-lead bands would want that "uplifting."
It's even gotten to the point where people are saying "well her music has metal, but it's not metal" which is like... DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF? apparently metal music is only metal when it's racist cishet white men making it, not when it, oh yknow, has actual metal elements.
Anyways her songs are great. She's signed to Hopeless Records which, imo, is telling that the alternative music industry is accepting her. She's even posted tons of throwbacks from her days following Warped Tour and being meeting a ton of iconic bands. She's got a Set It Off collab coming out later this month I think? I really hope people grow the fuck up and come to their senses before they ruin the career of a great artist who's just trying to make art and have fun.

I 110% agree with you, it's been a problem since metal started. Metal fans seems to be worse for it than any other.
I never heard of Scene Queen and I want to thank you for telling me about her! Her music sounds fun af and I'm down for it.

yeah i find it so stupid they respectthe lyrics of chic'n'stu but not a woman led thing,i personally dont listen to her music but she doesnt deserve the hate at ALL people just dont like change and the moment a woman tries to do something new they shit their fucking pants
see, I respect this, her music ain't for everyone and that's fine! like you said, it's the absurd amount of hate that makes no sense!
