The 2000s was a time we all loved and it seems to be gaining popularity again in many ways. From people using this website as a "new Myspace" to the simple aesthetic trending on TikTok. The trend also seems to be coming from the nostalgia facto of that time, seeing how most people bringing it back are Gen Z kids who would've grown up then. People are on two sides of bringing back the 2000s. Either being a 2000s scene kid or a 2000s barbie.
While I'm on the ladder of the two, that doesn't mean that scene kids aren't making, albeit, a more tasteful comeback. Rather than being full on scene kid with hair that's teased to no end and putting a Gir hoodie on, people have seemed to tone it down and decided to keep most aspects while still updating the look. They still keep the raccoon striped hair but keep it casual. All of those bracelets and rainbow fishnet gloves have been replaced with a new form of accessorizing called Kandi. Kandi is jewelry made out of beads. With how easy making Kandi is it is made more accessible for more people to join in on the aesthetic. With this easy access this also means that gender, size, and race don't have any requirements for this aesthetic.
The barbie aesthetic has also made a comeback with more accessibility. With multiple names being given to this aesthetic, barbie, bimbo, pink y2k, etc. this aesthetic to easy to find and point out. It consists of pink, glitter, purses, short skirts, makeup, and most things that are deemed feminine or girly. When looking at photos of this aesthetic then vs. now, you can see that the looked has become more cleaned up and less 'trashy'. With the updated look of the aesthetic though, more people can join in. Much like the last one, gender, size, and race no longer have any requirements for the aesthetic. With the new age, people have become more accepting so that anybody can take part. And people have started claiming terms that used to be insults like 'bimbo' into a power move and wear that with pride.
Amongst all the other aesthetics in the sea, new and old, I find these aesthetics very interesting to talk about. And seeing the changes from when they first got here to now is fascinating to see. The biggest changes for both of these aesthetics is them being cleaned up, neat, and accessible for all.
