My DND Set Up

Hello and welcome to my first blog post! Today I will be showing you my essential pieces to my DND play each week.

I started just a few months ago. I have always wanted to play, but did not know where to begin to look for a DM during a pandemic. Then my husband told me of a classmate of his from college who runs sessions and said we could sit in on one to see if I would like it. I started rolling the dice that night and have not stopped. Lol.

My character is a Female Tiefling Wizard who practices Necromancy. Her name is Liberty. She didn't start out as female and she ran away from a necromancy cult. I will do another blog post about my character more in detail later.

The first major piece I have is this vintage leather bag that my friend gifted me. It just fits all my dice, pencils and other items so nicely. Plus, quite the coincidence that the initials are ML. Maybe for Mr. Liberty? Or I guess, Ms. Liberty now. Lol. I also love the rose details since my character plays both sides of necromancy. Giving and taking life. Such a delicate balance.

My next piece is definitely the leather bound journal my father gave me when I was in high school. I never used it, but kept it because it was so beautiful and well crafted. After we moved into our new house, I was going through old boxes to donate un-used items when I found this gem. So, I dusted it off, took out my calligraphy kit and went to work on titling pages to keep all the information organized. (I took a calligraphy course in high school. Easily one of my most used skills to date. Forget about algebra. Ha ha.)

Next are my dice! They were gifted to me by a co-worker of mine! I had discussed DND with them previously and originally asked them which company I should go through for my first dice set. They were so nice and said, "How about I get them for you!? Someone bought my first set and I would love to pay that forward." I just had to promise to pay for someone else's dice in the future. (Which it just might be my roommate.) All I said was, sparkly and cute for the dice I wanted. Below is what I received and I love them!! Especially having four D20s! Gives me lots of options to roll those dire situations hopefully away.

Next are my trinkets that pertain specifically to my character. I like to display them to inspire my role playing and decision making. First off, I have real bird skulls. I did not kill any birds, but I think my cat did. One day as I was doing yard work, I just found the fragile skulls in the bushes, just as you see them below. They were so clean and well preserved. Originally they were on display in home, but now, they are displayed on my kitchen table each week.

The other tickets I have is an old Victorian broach (not authentic) that resembles what my character has to remember their mother by since photographs do not exist. My character was able to get it charmed with a 'Speak with the Dead' spell, which I have one charge of. The two rings are also what my character wears. The black obsidian ring is what Liberty asked an architect to make and later charmed it with 'Animate Dead.' Since my character already knew the spell, Liberty can now summon twice as many undead. Lastly is the ring with the red stone. The red stone was pressed out of the ashes of her late brother, Kamos, who also escaped the cult, but unfortunately, died by the hand of over 100 ghosts on their journey. The ring is to keep him close.

Well there you have it! All my DND items. This game has changed my life in such a positive way. When I was feeling hopeless and scared via pandemic, I was still able to gather with my friends (& husband) one a week to role play in a distant land, in a distant time with magical powers and fantastic adventures.

Wow, that's amazing! I haven't wanted to show off mine mainly because the Starter Set I got was from a pair of friends for my birthday last year. But we're not friends anymore so I'm not keen to interact with it anymore. I should at least show off my dice (and my MTG cards, to boot!)

You totally should share your set up! I would love to see it. Since it is my first go around, gathering as much other tips and tricks is so fun. :)
