strawberries + safety pins 1: cupid's lollipops tank

I finally figured out how to insert images into blog posts, thanks to someone in one of my friends' bulletins, so welcome to the the first installment of Strawberries + Safety Pins, a fashion blog of sorts that serves to show off some creations I am particularly proud of, mainly in the realm of fashion, but I may occasionally branch out into room decor.

This will correspond with pictures I will upload and post on the Instagram account @strawberries_and_safety_pins, but the main event will be here on SpaceHey, since I can write more and go more in-depth about the items I make on here, the first of which being this tank top I finished a few weeks ago:

(that's a picture of me modeling it, I felt quite awesome in that fit)

Cupid's Lollipops originated as an incredibly small and incredibly short-sleeved t-shirt I discovered at Goodwill. I grew up getting 95% of my clothes from that store, so I've grown quite fond of scouring the racks in search of good finds. A great deal of future entries will cite Goodwill as their origin as well. I feel like that's an important thing to mention, because I can't count the amount of times where people have told me, "I'd love to dress like you do but I can't afford to." I wouldn't be able to, either, had I not been raised by middle-class thrifting parents. I have a serious capitalism-killed-alternative-fashion rant, but I'll get into that at a later date. Cupid's Lollipops is the focus right now.

You know those t-shirts whose sleeves are so small that they dig slightly into your armpits? Yeah, Cupid's Lollipops was one of those. Personally, I can't stand those kinds of shirts and usually disregard them. However, the overall aesthetic of this one and the vintage air of the design attracted me, so I bought it despite the issues with the sleeves. I had big plans and I knew I could create something out of it.

I then cut off the sleeves and proceeded to lose several hours to re-sew a couple of areas because I was off in my original cut. But when that was all said and done with, I added several safety pins to the shirt due to an encounter with an inspiration via Pinterest. And it was done! I've only worn it once so far (where I live the weather's turning colder and it's not tank top season anymore), but I'm absolutely going to wear it in the future because damn, this tank top looks awesome as fuck.

And this concludes the first entry of Strawberries and Safety Pins! I definitely had fun writing this, and getting an opportunity to share my DIY creations as an entity separate from music, which is my main focus. I get a lot of joy from making these, and I hope you find them to be as interesting as I do.

With lollipops and livelihood,
