Everythings kinda depressing with the division in the black community, more or less the African diaspora. With people claiming that Soulaan/AA culture and influence is not real or claiming parts of our culture. It’s tiring fighting and arguing people everyday. But that’s a convo for another time! Due to some people not respecting cultural boundaries, us AA/soulaans have to keep some our culture hidden from nonblk ppl. (If ur AA and want to know more Dm/Im me) So let’s talk the about some of our culture that is visible!!! <3 Cornrows Cornrows, a braiding style that can be in different patterns. They originated in Sub Sahara, Africa. Cornrows have been seen in cave painting dating back 3000 BC. In the beginning of slave trade, slave traders stole African men and women and striped them of their culture. Enslaved women would braid their hair in cornrows to keep cool and to keep their out of the way. Another way enslaved men and women use cornrows was braiding shapes of escape routes, roads, and fields to help others escape. Some would braid seeds, corn, and other little food for the trip. Cornrows, box braids, locs/dreads are cultural hairstyles passed down from our African ancestors to African Americans. Quilts African American qulits wear made not just for comfort, but to also do a lot of things. Quilts were used to tell stories and much like how cornrows used patterns of fields to help other enslaved people escape, qulits used symbols and other patterns and colors. Quilting was also an art form for African Americans. That's all for today! To my Afro Americans, Soulaans, and African Americans whatever terms you like to to use remember to be unapologetically AA!!!!
Unapologetically African American!!!!
