Review of The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek

This book is by Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal whom I have never heard of before but evidently are pretty famous on youtube. This is their first novel, but not their first book. The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek starts off with three teens in North Carolina getting ready to film a scene at a Pig Pickin' fundraiser for one of the Baptist churches. Fundraiser for Baptist church should tell you right there they really don't put up with shenanigans. The teens commence the scene with Rex filming, Leaf comforting Alicia who is playing his daughter and then Alicia is chased by her "polterdog" (ghost dog for you people that are like what??). Insanity ensues. The dog gets a little overzealous causing Alicia to run into the BBQ king knocking him into the grill and causing severe burns to his hands and basically ruining the whole fundraiser. The BBQ King that Alicia runs into is also the "Dean" at the local reform school where kids go only to come back very strange or not at all. Needless to say after Alicia's fumble she is sent there by her parents. Leaf and Rex are wrecked that their friend was sent there and are determined to get her out. Along the way, they meet "crazy" wood boy, another person that makes films, a previous reformed victim of the bad school, and cultists! This book is quite the adventure and is suitable for all ages. There is a bit of supernatural elements that make it perfect for a Halloween read since we're getting close to spooky season. Each chapter is from a different point of view and tie up nice and neat at the end. I did like the late 80's and early 90's pop culture references. The epilogue was fun and leaves you with a few questions.
