I fell off my Onewheel today. It wasn’t serious, but it was the worst fall I’ve had by far. I hadn’t fallen off since I was learning to ride, 16 months ago.
My assumption is I was going too fast, though I normally cruise along at a steady pace. I was almost at work, when suddenly the motor stopped dead. Instantly, I was thrown forward. I flew about a metre, then hit the road hard. I ripped my jeans and took the skin off my right kneecap, skinned part of my right palm, and also my chin from when I hit the ground still moving forwards, and slid along the tarmac. My gloves were torn, but I’ll be able to take another fall wearing them (I hope never, or at least not for a long time…) so I don’t need to replace them. It just shows how vital safety equipment is, because my nose was saved from hitting the road first by hitting the edge of my helmet instead.
It wasn’t bad enough to put me off riding, but it did make work a bit painful and I’m sat here on my couch now unable to wrap myself in a blanket because I need to air these large patches of raw skin…
