this one's about car stuff. it's definitely rambly and has some technical-ish talk. read only if you want haha.
the above, and it feels like i don't have many places where i feel like posting this kind of stuff. i hardly even post in my build thread on the actual miata forum. maybe i just don't like expressing anything in public spaces. yeah that's probably it.
and this space is almost empty. and it doesn't have the same feel as a finsta. i don't think i'd make a finsta again. for unrelated reasoning.
i signed up for a track day at the end of the month. second ever, and the first one was over 5 years ago. haha. for all the stuff i wish or want to be done to the car for it, some of it's forsure gonna fall by the wayside.
my biggest concern right now is the tire hitting the wheelwell under aggressive cornering and maybe certain bumps and dips, basically the culmination of the wheel/tire diameter being too high, my coilover being set too low(stance, yo), and the wheel being both a little wider and a lower offset than what i was on previously. 15" wheels are dumb. jk my coilover height is the dumb part.
so i decided to have the tire shop to move the tires from my current 15x7 +27 wheel, back down to the wheels i was on before, 15x6.5 +32/+35. at this point it SHOULD play nicely with my 195/50 tire. at least i hope so. if it does, COOL. it'll just look butt ugly from most angles imo because the wheels will be extra sunken in. if the issue continues, then idk maybe the coils are giving out and sagging down from being slammed for as long as they have. hope not though.
the baller solution would be to just get A052's in 185/55 for my 14" wheels. it would solve my diamater issue, and it's the only really good option for that tire size, but that compound is $$$. but it's one of the best tires. fitment would be miles better than what i have going on with 15" too. one day though. but in the meantime while i'll have the +27's off, it's a bad excuse to play around with other small wheels that have just been sitting and sitting.
my other main thing is the bolt-in frame rail reinforcements that i recently had the shop install. bc of my coilover height (oh hey, a theme) that part of the car sits a little lower now. it cancels out the rails themselves being bashed in from years of scraping lmao, but hey. increased chassis rigidity. something a convertible definitely needs. plus when they(metal) scrape, i won't feel as bad about making small sparks.
anyways, on the bottomside of the reinforcements, there's a couple studs pointing straight downward for the fuel lines to be secured by way of a couple nuts. fuck those things, ground clearance is worse with em and i don't want them to get so scraped up that a wrench can't fit over them. so far they just hit on speedbumps and when i take driveways badly. i hope it's not an issue ontrack.
i'd raise the rear coils, but with the right wheel and tire size, the car goes full track stance fitment. it's dumb and not ideal for actual spirited or performance driving, but i love it. that and i don't want to deal with additional alignments before and after the track. it'd be smarter to though.
besides that, as far as track prep goes, i mostly just need to buy a helmet after i get paid, and print out my door numbers. i lucked into a legit advan track day number from japan, and had a friend modify it to make it into #69. nice.
well done nods toward ✨golden era✨ JDM style really get me going tbh, and this is way cooler to me than what i've seen out there stateside. actually scratch that, i did see pictures from final bout of the blue d*squad car with one of those advan numbers. it looks pretty cool.
will update when more things happen. maybe. my eyes are tired.

As a fellow miata enthusiasts, i can say 15x8 will work fine as long as your at +35 offset. Anything less than will rub the fender. Thos will tuck it nicely behind the fender, whether your at stock height or dragging frame. As for the frame rails im currently running v8 roadster rails, and was a tad paranoid with the bolts as well. You can remove one and use thay as a guide at a local hardware store to get slightly shorter ones if need be. Highly suggest grade 8 or better for those. To avoid fender rub with your current 15" tores that you have on hand, you could also roll or pull yoir fenders for a bit more clearance if need be. If you ever have any questions or concerns about something miata related feel free to reach out to me for a non-biased, never judged opinion or suggest ✌

i appreciate the input! but in this case, it's the actual tread of the tire itself hitting the top of the wheelwell under compression, not the sidewall rubbing the fender. the fenders have a healthy roll already, so i'm good on that front
i also hear you on the frame rail fix, i have a plan in mind to relocate them to sit higher, i'm just supremely lazy on actually going about it haha.

im assuming your on 50 sidewall profile then huh? im running into similar issues myself. i got some 195 45 15 on hand so i'll be testing those out here pretty soon. although i do plan on staying with 205 up front but just wanna do some more fitment testing really

yeah i use 195/50 for that, i've been thinking about 195/45 if i ever want to try a stancey 15" setup. if i find some 15x8 +10 to +15, it's a wrap pretty much.
i double checked a tire size calculator and 45 sidewall is a hair bit shorter than 185/55/14 (the other tire i'm usually on) so more than likely you'd have no issues with 45's
