Last week I got a call from my mom. I was just hanging with a couple of friends in the park, getting ready to walk home. I missed the call but called back immediately after. It still feels unreal.
What she told me was that our house is burning down right now. They were at the dinner table, when their radio went off and they noticed there was no power. They at first thought of a power outage but then they noticed the smell. Their bedroom was already in flames at that point.
I'm so glad everyone one is save, the pets too, but the shock is still very much there... I've been there myself by now to rescue my last belongings.. They fit in 3 boxes and 3 little plastic bags.
I've been thankfully basically living with my boyfriend already and had most of my clothes and some other things at his place. But my parents and brother lost almost everything.
It's such a traumatic experience I wish to nobody, I've been dreaming of our house or of the fire every night and I wasn't even present at the fire..
And also knowing that my parents could be dead now, had they gotten to bed a little earlier or had the fire happened a little later, is really hard to swallow. I'm so glad only material things got 'hurt'.
But we all don't really have a home now anymore. I mean of course
I am still at my boyfriends place but if something happens, and I'm equipped for anything now, I'd be on the streets. Well not really, I could stay at the place my parents stay at the moment, but those are the kinda thoughts running through my head right now...
Sorry for the personal rant, if anyone even reads this. Had to get it off my chest. I need a smoke now lol.

It’s so good that no one got hurt, but still so unfortunate that your family lost their possessions. I hope your family will recover from this event, it’s not easy Ik it reminds me of a robbery our family had years ago when we lost some stuff. Hopefully your family has somewhere to stay and live and that they are doing well mentally/emotionally also.

Thank you. Yes thankfully their insurance pays for a vacation home in our town they're staying in atm. But of course many things and memories we're lost in the fire. It showed all of us, however, what's really important, and that is health and family, not possessions. Thankfully everyone around them is also very helpful and already supplied them with clothes and similar stuff.
