So playing a G major scale in 3rd position means that you start on the B because the third note in the G major scale is a B. Even more than that, did you know that the third Chord in a G major scale is a B-and that when you play the third position of a G major scale you are naturally playing licks in B-? That means that all you need to write riffs for any song that has any chord progression is to know the scale positions and what chords each one correlates to.
