She Dreamed of Going to the Stars (Poem)

It was the middle of the night when she would look out of her window and admire the stars. 

The world around her falling almost silent, 

As the screaming and hitting began to cease. 

The stinging redness on her cheek would start to fade, 

The dampness beneath her eyes finally beginning to dry. 

 
Staring out towards the night sky, 

The little girl dreamed of the day where she’d be able to fly, 

Fantasising of the day she’d be able to fly away from her nightmare, 

not really caring where. 

 
It was on nights like these that the girl would make herself a promise. 

A promise that someday she would fly high amongst those stars up in the sky,  

Dreaming of leaving the trauma of her current life far, far behind.
