my first job

i got a job recently. it's the first job i've ever had. i'm hostessing at a restaurant not far from my house. obviously there was a bit of a learning curve at first, not a lot of the skills i needed were things i was taught, but figuring out what to do is mostly common sense once you figure out when to do it. it's been three weeks now and i feel that i've got a better grip of the rhythm of the place.

the weirdest part about this job is that i'm getting paid. one could say that this is the most normal part of any job, a common thread between fast food workers and office employees and millionaires, yet it's odd to me. my entire life i've been putting in all this work for free. or for my own betterment i suppose. i've signed up for countless volunteer programs. i've taught, picked up garbage, run events, baked for bake sales. the closest i've come to a normal job before this is babysitting, and even then i'd usually get $10-$20 maximum. now, all of a sudden, all of the work i've been doing all these years is outshone by a paying job. it's like it's more real. i still don't feel like i deserve to get paid, but that's why i applied after all.

maybe i'll get used to the idea, i'll try to update later.
