literally just get the hair and makeup and then wear:
long tight shirts
tight low rise jeans
converse vans combat boots uggs etc etc
tight hoodies
low rise skirts or shorts
colorful or edgy tights

you can get all of these types of clothes from generic stores like target, hollister, forever 21 etc etc in solid colors and then add accessories like bracelets, necklaces, beanies etc

just shy away from stuff thats baggy/high waisted/obviously looks like it was made in 2021 and you'll look "scene" if you have the hair

also don't fall for the hot topic scam if you need band merch check depop, mercari, poshmark, or ebay. hot topic barely has anything "scene" except for studded belts

go thrift shopping!!! especially n the kids section. weird, i know, but that's where you can find all the best scene stuffs, and it's cheaper too!! just gotta know what you're lookin for n how to style it

most scene shops are way too expensive XP

best bets are ebay and depop (be careful with the latter because of resellers) for most specific clothes. get the more normal looking stuff at irl thrift stores.
you can still get **some** good things at hot topic but they're really expensive and don't cater to us anymore ):
claire's can have some good accessories from time to time, check your local dollar store too. you can also get some on the previously mentioned websites if you know where to look, plus etsy is really good for kandi, ears, tails, ect.
you should just focus on the hair and makeup mainly, don't feel pressured to build a huge wardrobe right away. most people will get the memo with a few wristbands, hair accessories, and the other typical identifiers.

ALSO if you're looking for some really early 2010s period accurate shit: snoop around districtlines' early catalog that hasn't sold out yet.. it's like time travel. they have super good wristbands too. i think ddc still has some new merch that's still up somewhere aswell, like on some older merch site? i definitely remember seeing it.

pps: you usually have to diy raccoontails. you can do it with sharpie although i think other things might work better if you don't want them to get a bit crusty over time. you have to diy a lot of things, and honestly you should since it's really fun. whenever i go out to those small gift stores i'll try to grab something to put on a chain necklace or something.
