Colour In The Lines

"Black."

"I already told you."

"Can I hear it again?"

A small silence is followed by the roll of amber eyes, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

"You weren't listening the first time." What should have been a question is only a statement, but he already knows the answer.

"You know me too well, Alex." Hes stopped before he can take his spot on edge of the bed, not by an arm but a set of uncomfortable eyes.

"Alexander."

"Right." A nod as the matress squeaks under his weight serves as his apology. "Now tell me, Alexander."

"Mm.. Despair."

"Old rain?"

"Poetry."

Liam just stares, awaiting his explination.

"It isn't sad, its not neutral either. It's..." Three seconds. "Winter? I guess."

"I don't understand."

"Black is every color, yeah? The colds like that. Freezing feels like your skin is burning. I heard that when you die of hypothermia, the last thing you feel is warmth. It gives you false hope."

"I don't think thats true."

"I like to believe it is."

Blue eyes shifting compliment the silence.

"Red."

"All of my colors are depressing." A lonely snort of uncertainty follow his head as it falls, loose curls hiding his face.

"I don't mind."

"Blood."

"Fear?"

"In some peoples eyes."

Realization tastes awful nowdays.

"Do you hurt yourself?"

He tensed up, and though he couldnt see it Liam knew his face was red. He wanted to apologize but Alexander spoke before he could open his mouth.

"Everyone does, in one way or another."

"I'm sorry if that was too personal."

"You're fine." He finally looked back up, not facing Liam but his wall. He didn't mind that.

"So just self harm?"

"Not quite. Hurt in general, physical or mental." A pause. "Maybe fire would have been a better word."

"The red is frustration, the blue is your sadness. Maybe regret?"

He smiled, turning his head. "On the dot."

"Two birds with one stone. Hows yellow go?"

"Relief. The warm feeling you get after crying your heart out."

"It all comes back to winter."

"Piss in the snow."

"And you killed the mood."

"You killed the joke."

"I'm not laughing." He smiled. He wasn't now but the ice was thin and cracked.

"Why so serious?"

"That's not even the right movie, dickwad." A punch to the shoulder breaks it. "Oi!"

"Do you want the colors or not?"

"Why so serious?"

Alex tried to hide his smile, failing of course but its the thought that counts. "Idiot."

"You said it first!"

"I'll shove my docs up your ass."

"Quit taking your sex fantasies out on your friends, love." Liam was hardly even able to finish in between his laughter and Alexander repratedly kicking his shins in an attempt to fufil his promise.

"Careful, I'm a virgin!" He shouted as he turned aroundon his stomach, loud enough for Alex's parents to hear. The idea was enough to make him leave the others ass alone.

"I'm over it."

"... So what about green?"

"Choke."
