Emo, on a personal level, enabled me to explore the depth of my feelings and granted me expressions beyond the norms. Some could argue that the emo amplifies depression, but I believe it is quite the opposite. Emo materialises the depression and turns it into an artful expression, which is a socio-cultural coping mechanism. Listening to emo, and producing emo art, is similar to writing a diary. I can, without a glimpse of doubt, state that it is the style of voyeurism which is beneficial for the well-being of the auteur and the spectator.
Emo also revealed the inner poet who resided in the darkness of my body. It helped me to cope with how I felt. Which, I am extremely grateful for.
Emo might also destigmatise the depression, the fiery sensation of the angst.
