absurdist thought

i have no wehre to talk about philosophy B) i will now proceed to talk about absurdism absurdism. the philosophy of embracing the absurd the absurd being the knowing that life has no meaning but at the same time laughing at it straight in the face and making your own meaning to life as you go along, a constant rebellion against the truth, just because you can, but ultimately you know that, despite us coming into the world seeking and shouting for meaning, the universe is silent and indifferent to whatever shills we have in the myth of sisyphus, alber camus puts 3 ways of going about accepting that life has no meaning, one is suicide, if theres no meaning, what's there to live for? two is philosophical suicide, a way to evade the absurd, evade the fact life has no meaning, and find meaning to the universe elsewhere, an ad-hoc way to explain the inconsistencies of man's desire for existential meaning/purpose, and the apparent lack of it, such philosophical suicides are things like religions, cults, and etc. then the last is embracing the absurd philosophical suicide is trying to reach final conclusions and leaps to the end which contradict the original absurd position or something like that just quoting wikipedia here cause the people who write the articles definitely do a better job at explaining it: "Taking the absurd seriously means acknowledging the contradiction between the desire of human reason and the unreasonable world." for camus, who sets out to face the absurd, and take it seriously and follow it to its conclusions, these illogical "leaps" in philosophical suicides cannot convince, taking the absurd seriously is accepting the inconsistency and the contradiction of humanity's shouts for meaning to the silent and indifferent infinite suicide then, also must be rejected, for without man, there is no absurd to exist man must live the contradiction, constantly acknowledging the limits of human reason, and without false hope or faulting, the absurd can never be forever accepted and must be faced with rebellion and constant confrontation that is the absurd man free will is no concern to the Absurd man, the Absurd man gains his freedom in a very straightforward approach he is no longer bound by the hope of tomorrow, no longer bound by a better future or concerned with what happens to the eternity of the infinite he no longer has the need to pursue life's purpose or even to create meanin he experiences a freedom from the passionate outside crystallizing in him he experiences a freedom with regard to common rules a return to conciousness, an escape from everday slumber of which represents the first steps into absurd freedom we build our life on the hope for tomorrow, yet tomorrow brings us closer to death and is the ultimate enemy; i skipped over this but in the first of myth of sisyphus, albert camus asks: "Does the knowledge that life is meaningless and absurd necessarily require suicide?" he also describes what a absurd man is life he describes how an Absurd Man is, "How should the absurd man live? Clearly, no ethical rules apply, as they are all based on higher powers or on justification. "...integrity has no need of rules... 'Everything is permitted,'... is not an outburst of relief or of joy, but rather a bitter acknowledgement of a fact." "Camus then goes on to present examples of the absurd life. He begins with Don Juan, the serial seducer who lives the passionate life to the fullest. "There is no noble love but that which recognizes itself to be both short-lived and exceptional." The next example is the actor, who depicts ephemeral lives for ephemeral fame. "He demonstrates to what degree appearing creates being. In those three hours, he travels the whole course of the dead-end path that the man in the audience takes a lifetime to cover." Camus's third example of the absurd man is the conqueror, the warrior who forgoes all promises of eternity to affect and engage fully in human history. He chooses action over contemplation, aware of the fact that nothing can last and no victory is final." "But it is existential preaching that is alluded to, and with it that spiritual leap which basically escapes consciousness. In the same way (this is my second comparison) the slaves of antiquity did not belong to themselves. But they knew that freedom which consists in not feeling responsible.11 Death, too, has patrician hands which, while crushing, also liberate" an absurd man frees himself from the slavery of future hope and better eternity, he finds in himself an independence, but this indepence is not eternal " Such new independence has a definite time limit, like any freedom of action. It does not write a check on eternity. But it takes the place of the illusions of freedom, which all stopped with death. The divine availability of the condemned man before whom the prison doors open in a certain early dawn, [60]that unbelievable disinterestedness with regard to everything except for the pure flame of life—it is clear that death and the absurd are here the principles of the only reasonable freedom: that which a human heart can experience and live. This is a second consequence. The absurd man thus catches sight of a burning and frigid, transparent and limited universe in which nothing is possible but everything is given, and beyond which all is collapse and nothingness. He can then decide to accept such a universe and draw from it his strength, his refusal to hope, and the unyielding evidence of a life without consolation." thats enough for now :p
