everything within reason. its how things are done usually between u and i. still fairly new to each other's presence. still curious, still testing the waters. we ask each other questions.
small talk. anything to make things seem less off. they still do at times. when talking, one makes eye contact for a second while the other never breaks. now we know things about each other. surface level. within reason."what name would u like to go by?"
"u changed ur hair?"
caught me off guard. clever. u held a lock of my hair. it caught others off guard too. unfazed is how i appear. i nod. u twirl the lock. just to see the colors. within reason.
break the silence. u ask this often. mostly fall behind with me while we walk. i always say that i am. u ask again, this time standing a bit closer. i look up at u and u stare back. reassure me that we can leave if i wanted to. i thank him even if i know he's going to ask me later. checking up on me like he always does. within reason."are u doing okay?"
how you manage, truly its beyond me. my head was ringing. u put ur hand in the way so i wouldnt get hurt again. i pretended not to notice. u pretended to not care. every turn after that i felt myself moving towards ur hand. u moved. closer. head in ur hands. without a word. without a mention. we stayed that way for a moment. without reason."are u hurt?"
