weirdcore rant/critique

mind my language i have a lot to say

so i saw this tumblr video and it gave me a good laugh. i mean, if you look at weirdcore it's always made up of the same components. microsoft bliss background, bibically accurate angels, flora, mushrooms, eyes, the backrooms or liminal spaces

for an aesthetic that has "weird" in it you'd expect people to take inspiration from old surrealism paintings or yume nikki(or at least get creative). like come the fuck on. it's called WEIRDcore. lots of shit is weird and you guys just only choose basic generic trope-y stuff.

personally, i disagree with this person because if you just make the excuse that people should do whatever they want without being critiqued...that's not right. because in the end, things will get critiqued no matter what you do. and weirdcore isn't immune to this

i feel like statements like this is why lots of people's weirdcore works are stagnating, following tropes. i haven't seen any weirdcore creators who break the standard and make something truly unique. most art that comes out of it looks the same. and that's not good. this isn't limited to aesthetic art entirely, it goes for art in general. if someone makes the excuse that this person is doing a hobby for fun and does not want their work to be critiqued so the person can grow and improve, then that person doesn't care about making progress and seeing their work shine. they just want it to stay the same.

EDIT: I do not have anything against the artists who make weirdcore stuff. i just wanted to talk about how boring weirdcore is right now.
