the ambiguity in what a "generation" is is getting annoying

the first time i ever heard of generations and was labeled with one was in middle school when my shop teacher claimed accurately that he was a boomer and less accurately that we belonged to gen x i would later learn gen x is the generation my parents belong to so gen y then? no cuz the obvious joke would then be y do you do stup!d things? so i guess gen y just doesn't exzist? turns out it did? it's a small period in the 80's similar to another generation i will be talking about so what's my generation then? millennial of course starting from the late 80's and applying to anyone born before 2005 and we get blamed for everything for some reason despite most of the people doing the blaming are themselves millennials this generation was too long to be a single generation and is so unclear i've heard gen xers refer to themselves as millennials the next short generation being gen z would you believe it gen z is no longer the youngest generation no that title now goes to gen alpha those kids us 90's kids saw on the streets being spoiled with iphones and our convos about how we had to earn our cell phones yeah those kids are about as old as many of us millennials like to think and act like we are (not me honestly i feel kinda old but at least i look young) so when does alpha begin? 2020 that's right z went from 2005-2019 14 years (actually thats kinda long but sure feels short and it is the 2nd shortest barring alpha of that i've mentioned) how long will alpha go on for? god knows a generation should be either 10 or 20 years and only 1 of those not both but it seems we choose to just apply the cusp as the actual thing and it makes no sense my experience as a kid born in 96 is different from that of a kid born in 2000 and the kid born in 89 has a different experience to me as well but yet they're both considered the same generation as me i thought generations where supposed to mark the collective experience of people born within a specific time frame but that's not how they are assigned millennial is such a long generation theres now a "sub generation" known as elder millennials is that not weird to you? we need to get this sh!t organized cuz watch people will come here and argue with me that i got my assignments wrong but the funny thing is they can't agree either i've seen some take the wrong info from wikipedia and try and say that's the truth about when the generation counts and it just throws an even harder wrench into figuring this out usually even funnier still despite having no idea what generation is which we still tend to get in the ball park and usually nail it when we try and figure what generation someone belongs to unless they're gen z or gen y which again are the shortest generations and often get mistaken for the generations that came before them you know what f it i'm not a millennial i'm a 90's kid

It is kind of annoying I agree. It's just another trivial topic to argue about in my opinion. I never paid it that much mind as people all seem to have their own ideas of who belongs in what generation. So it's kind of pointless in that case.
