I'm trying to write for a character who, as you probably guessed, hunts vampires. I had the idea of a whip but despite never getting into Castlevania, I felt like I would be copying it. Another reason is a whip just seems too odd of a choice in the modern day along with the fact I need a close ranged weapon for her. If it helps she is a detective type hunter so I can't have her carrying around large weapons if she's having to go inside cities and buildings. I already have her using a crossbow and gun so ranged damage is covered.
Any ideas for a weapon a vampire slayer would use in the modern age?

I would take inspiration from the World of Darkness universe, honestly. It takes place in the modern era and there's a wealth of modern and magical tools like equalizer grenades (to prevent shapeshifting via a special sound frequency), bullets infused with spiritual energies, swords enchanted with demon magics, etc.
Since this character is a detective-esque hunter, I would give her some kind of special dagger. It could be enchanted, blessed by the church depending on her connections, maybe coated in a special poison?
Also I'm really sorry for going through your blogposts but they were very interesting to me x.x. i'd assume you've figured out what else to give her by now, but perhaps it gives you ideas for something else?

That's fine, if I'm interesting then that makes me feel less bad about all the weird posting I do. I'm getting self conscious about half my posts being ranty against cringe kids here and the other half being cringe itself to other adults who rant about any user who isn't a normie. Awkward middle amirite
Anyways one friend convinced me to just give her a gun since that's easy and usual. I can't remember if we made the bullets blessed or filled with something to cause harm but we did something like that. Also I did have the idea of a compact type spear? I am not an engineer at all so I don't know if it's even possible, but I thought she could use one to trust into Vampires, like a stake that doubles as a long reach weapon. The reason for it being foldable is to make it easier to carry around and hide.
Also kinda had the item to have modernized versions of Roman weaponry (I didn't have this idea when I made this blog post) as I thought a fun lore thing would be make her agency's origins trace all the way back to the medieval era where they were simply church members who's job was to purge anything evil and unholy.

My original comment got 503'd. If this post is a bit short that's why... I didn't copy + paste it into a notepad document like I usually do in case something like this happens and idk if I feel like typing out a feature length film script again (ok it wasnt that long but hyperbole is fun)
When it comes to being self-conscious about your posts... man, i feel you. I actually post quite a few blogs and bulletins but nearly every single one gets made private or is deleted within 2 hours because I get ultra self-conscious. I admire being able to keep your posts up despite being self-conscious about them.

Oh yeah you could totally use pneumatics for this. The bulgarian umbrella is extremely small but still worked. Explaining something like this in detail isnt something I'm too fond of tho, I think that belongs more in a design document akin to art books or the DOOM Bible.
Knowing how it works is definitely helpful for sure, but explaining it eh. I'm sure you can tell but creative writing is not my forte anymore :/

Ok despite my grievances with the Catholic Church... I absolutely adore this trope. You don't see it too often since most stories give that job directly to the Church rather than outsourcing it, but when it does come up it's usually really epic.
