NAN'S GINGERBREAD >w<

this shit slaps anytime of the year so i thought i'd share ^v^

makes about 20 depending on what cutters u use and how thin u spread the dough

INGREDIENTS (measurements r in aussie metric)
  • 2 1/4 cups plain flower
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon bicarb soda
  • 100g butter, cut into small chunks
  • 1 cup loose brown sugar
  • 1 medium egg
  • 4 tablespoons golden syrup
heat oven to 190C (not fan force) before you start

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. sift the flour, ground ginger and bicarb soda into a large bowl. add the butter chunks.
  2. rub the butter into the flour with your fingers (mainly finger tips) until it is like fine breadcrumbs. stir in the sugar.
  3. break the egg into a small bowl, then add the golden syrup. beat well with a fork, then stir the egg syrup mixture into the dry ingredients.
  4. mix with a metal spoon until you make a dough. sprinkle flour onto your work surface (USE A LOT OF FUCKING FLOUR YOU WILL NEED ALOT YOU DO NOT WANT IT STICKING TO THE BENCH OR ROLLING PIN). put the dough on it.
  5. stretch the dough by pushing it away from u. fold it in half and repeat. carry on doing this until it is smooth.
  6. sprinkle more flour onto the work surface (FLOUR ISNT THAT EXPENSIVE U AS MUCH AS U NEED M8). cut the dough in half. roll out one half until it is about 5mm/1/4in thick. (depending on how crunchy u like ur gingerbread make it slightly thinner or thicker).
  7. use cookie cutters to cut out whatever shape u like idc if the original recipe says hearts u can make whatever u like i like making stars a dinosaurs. then, carefully lift the [undisclosed shapes] onto the greased baking trays.
  8. roll out the rest of the dough and cut out more [undisclosed shapes](u with have a lot of scrap with the cutting out the shapes, repeat step 5 with the scraps over and over until uve used most of the dough, then just eat the rest its yum >v<). put them on the baking trays, then put the baking trays in the oven.
  9. bake the biscuits (cookies for u americans) for 12-15 minuets. they will turn a golden brown. carefully take the baking trays out of the oven.
  10. leave the biscuits on the trays for about 5 minuets. then lift them onto a wire rack. leave them to cool.
after that u can ice them if u want, theyre so good theyre good without it ^v^
