Spice and Wolf Volume 1

Finished it, the end came sooner than I expected. Honestly I remember bits and pieces of this plot-line but I thought it came a lot later in the series, so apparently I remember even less than I thought I did.

This volume did wonders for my mood and in setting up the seeds of their romance, as well as solidly transitioning them from happenstance companions to people who want to travel together.

A wondrous display of a fantasy world with only One Weird Thing going on at a time. Like, without the one fantasy element of Holo the Wisewolf, this is a cut and dry medieval economics story. I love that. It's grounded in reality and spiced with wolf-god to give it flair.

Trying not to make this just a normal book review because it is not. This is supposed to just be me gushing after returning to a book series I love dearly and have not read in a long while.

Genuinely so happy with my purchase of the anniversary collector's edition. It was so fun to discover that it is the most cost effective way to get new physical versions of the main story(volumes 1 through 17) of Spice and Wolf. They range from about $13-$15 individually, both on amazon and on yenpress, times 17 is about $221-$255 not even counting shipping. The anniversary collector's edition is $175 flat. No taxes, free shipping. AND it comes in a beautiful leather-bound hardcover with a ribbon bookmark. Such a good deal if you want them. It's available on yenpress.com, if you're in the US at least.
