I have never understood how someone can find something to be to heavy, I have tried to find music i would personally concidered to be to heavy since 7th or so grade, thats kinda how i found blackmetal ig, just searching for something "to heavy" to then finding something I find now to be mostly quite beautiful.
i stil cant wrap my head around how some people see blackmetal and all its aesthetics and think "this is what id concider bad music, this is music only for extreamists, this music is to heavy to listen to" ngl i think deathmetal is way heavier then blackmetal, maybe people just havnt gotten a good enough grip on blackmetal and therefor just know whats on the surfice, like the classics like behemoth and the most known albums of darkthorne.
might be that im just awfully obsessed with music to the point that i cannot live a minute withot it, but I listen to blackmetal daily and for me to hear people saying its impossible to find any beauty in blackmetal weirds me out. tho it might also be me sticking mainly to the melodic, symphonic, atmospheric, medieval, romantic blackmetal and so on, but the guitars with the heavy drums are fr doing it for me, adding like a long vocal and im even more down.
theres also dsbm, which alot of people cringe at cuz its kindof the edgelord side of bm (exsept for mf war metal) but for me personally its just like that one escape, not the escape to feel all edgy and depressed but the escape where I have something i enjoy understanding my feelings to a closer level then any other genre would. or even just having something or someone have it worse making me feel better about myself anf my emotions.
another thing i enjoy is just sitting outside and looking at the nice views, our mountains, our forests and listen to blackmetal. go out in the middle of the night after am just to go on a walk with music, reminding me how disturbing it rlly is that there are people out there who despise music, who never listen to music with free will and if they enjoy a song its always a cheezy pop song.there is so much i will never understand with people who dont enjoy music, i mean ig i understand people who dont view music the same way i do or just dont have my music taste to a sertain degree but other then that it feels like a big mistery no mather how many times someone will try to describe it.
reminding me, back to people only seeing blackmetal as havy edgy stuff probbably dont see the talent and art put into it, the rythm and lyrics, i espesjally like the poetic ones, how can someone look at music and not see it as an artform or expression.
corpsepaint has also had a big impact on me, even tho its just facepaint heavily conected to the subculture, it is and will remain a kind of comfort for me. i mean facepaint is an artform in itself and i love art, but corpsepaint just hits diferent espesjally when ur struggeling with depersonaliztaion or derealization, i havily prefer myself in corpsepaint then anything else, it makes me feel more me. but i only do it if i have alot of free tie on my hands at night or if i go to a show, i dont go to shows to often.
also, for anyone reading this if there are anone who is. how did yall get into blackmetal???
i personally grew up with punk, thrash and hardrock. this led me to want to explore more of alternative music, i was stuck on altrock and diferent genres of punk for a good while, tho i always found a satisfaction in the screaming vocals and wished there was music that pretty much only had those vocals, aaaaand thats how i discovered heavier metal genres, one of them beaing deathcore which later evolved into deathmetal, then i found more of blackmetal, mainly mayhem but was heavily unsure until i got one of my then comfort teachers in middleschool to show me, she was mainly a blackmetalhead and dressed rlly cool :). she introduced me deeper into blackmetal, i got out of my mayhem phase and found way more better bands, and some blackmetalgenres that were way more my style. after that i just started listening more and more to it, the more i listened to it the more i started liking it and boom, now im here casually listening to blackmedal daily and more. i obv still listen to other metal genres, thrash being my second main, but blackmetal has definatly become my main music genre in general, not only in the metal subculture.
