hello! i'm non-binary, more specifically agender. if you happen to be reading this and specifically consider yourself a trans man or trans woman, i was wondering what your opinion is on non-binary people using the same term for themselves.
for context, i've just read a thing where someone claimed that non-binary people don't have the right to refer to themselves as trans. but also, it was literally on urban dictionary so i wouldn't be surprised if it was a false claim. still, it just got me wanting to double check.
this isn't really me expressing any interest in using it to refer to myself, but i'm just a little confused about it because i've always known transgender to be an umbrella term for other little umbrellas where binary and non-binary would lie underneath.
for example, this is one of the first images that pop up when you search google for the transgender umbrella:
you can see that non-binary lies underneath, so would it be acceptable for people who are non-binary to refer to themselves as transgender since they're also under that specific umbrella, or would it be more appropriate for them to stick to non-binary?
i'm just wondering how much the communities overlap with and separate from each other.
p.s, i'm sorry if i come off as offensive or if i made it seem like i'm trying to force myself into your community. that isn't my intention at all and i really just wanna get some knowledge on the subject so that i know what and what not to do/say.

hi, im a trans boy; nonbinary people have every right to call themselves trans if they wish to - you are not cis/your gender assigned at birth, which would make you trans. as well, they have an important place in our community and its disrespectful to ignore it. i think ive seen some nonbinary people say they dont consider themselves trans, so its not a label id ever force on anyone, but theres no worry in my mind about it personally. do what makes you happy.
