BALCO scandal

BALCO stands for Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative, a lab suspected of selling illegal performances enhancing drugs to athletes. The BALCO scandal revolved around baseball player Barry Jones and runner Marion Jones. Investigations into BALCO began in 2003 after the USADA was given an anonymous tip, which was later discovered to be given by a former coach of Marion Jones. Marion Jones was sentenced to 6 months in jail in January 2008 after pleading guilty to lying to to a federal agent back in 2003.
