After what many consider its golden age, Hip Hop and R&B faced a question in the 2000s, what next? What laid next would be the global popularity of hip hop and rise in southern rap. The south gave us artists such as OutKast, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Nelly, and Three 6 Mafia, who all notably made music that dominated the charts and define the decade. As for R&B, Aliyah who was well loved globally passed away in 2001, Beyonce became internationally known after going solo in 2003, and artists such as Alica Keys and Rihanna got their start. The sounds and look of Hip Hop and R&B, especially in the 2000s, influenced groups all around the world, from the Back Street Boys in America to K-pop.
