The Emo revolution describes the rapidly growing popularity of emo culture among teens in the 2000s. Similar to the punks or grunge people of the 90s, people who described themselves as emo dawned dark clothing and listened to rock music. But unlike their predecessors, Emo people revolved mainly around their music, a genre of rock that focused on expressing their emotions, instead of shared political ideals. This fact makes it harder to describe emo people as a counterculture. However emo people certainly went against norms of the time with their fluffy spiked hair, skinny jeans, and overall appearance. Emo people expressed their love for the music genre online through early forms of social media like Myspace. A few similar cultures that became popular during this time would be scene, hipster, and goth.

Unfortunately, they were no scholarly resources or studies on emo people to be found. This is all based on my knowledge! another side note: anything I could potentially use as a credible source was blocked! sorry MTV...
