Now, this might just be my opinion and that's honestly fine, you do you. But I really want to get this off my chest. So, I've been blogging my reactions to Secrets of Dumbledore but stopped at the last "gay wizard update" which was for the briefcase bonanza where just before the ceremony, the site I was watching the movie on crashed. As much as I loved all the actors and their performances, the first half of the movie already wasn't it for me so I dropped it altogether.
Before watching James Somertons video on the movie, I didn't know anything about what happened after the briefcase goose chase and let me tell you: I am glad I didn't finish the film. One of the things that really stuck to me was a comment one of the viewers (Ami Rom) made on how Grindelwald using Dumbledore's first name after the final fight would've had more weight to it than, well, just "Dumbledore". And I agree tenfold. This is one of the main reasons I decided to make a blog about the film because holy fuck, it was such wasted potential.
Okay, so a little background, I've been watching Mads Mikkelsen since I was a kid which led to my interest to the show Hannibal. That shit's phenomenal by the way. And as someone who has seen Mikkelsen be able to verbally manipulate and fuck up nearly every single character he had interacted with as Hannibal Lecter, God only knows how great it would've been to hear him say "Albus" in the same manipulative (or vindictive since he was pretty pissed after the final fight) way. And yeah, I genuinely think it was a wasted opportunity.
Overall, I loved all the actors' performances though, especially Mads Mikkelsen and Jude Law, heavily because of the final fight scene. But yeah, the story itself wasn't for me. In this sense, technically all of them were wasted in this movie. But again, this is only my take. If you liked the movie, that's fine too. I just wish they would do better in the next films since apparently, this still wasn't the big final showdown Dumbledore and Grindelwald had that was referenced in the previous books. Just for this reason, I'm still willing to watch the next movie/s because I'm really curious how that would play out.
