Just finished my reread of TSOM! The book is good, but it's my least favorite of the series, so I'm just gonna list a few thoughts:
-Percy is such an asshole to Tyson, I know his arc in this story is learning to love his new brother but he really doesn't have any non-bigoted reason to be hating on Tyson so hard in the first act of the book. Like bro you are also mentally disabled (ik Tyson is supposed to be a baby cyclops but he's coded like a developmentally disabled teenager) check yourself!!!! damb!!! ik this is just Rick being an able bodied dude writing this in 2006 and I'm sure he's learned better since then so I'm gonna let it slide... for now.
-I liked the odyssey allusions a lot. Really fun! Annabeth pretending to be Nobody was really amusing.
-The guinea pig scene traumatized me as a kid. #scarredforlife
-Percy's sailing powers are unironically the most fun and hilarious parts of his character. He just knows everything about sailing at sea and that's one of his superpowers. Mizzenmast lol
-I forgot about Annabeth's fatal flaw being hubris. Inch resting...
-Speaking of, the Siren scene was REALLY good, probably the best part of the book.
Honestly, I was really excited to finish this one so I could get to TTC. It's my favorite from the original series. Nonetheless I still really enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would, even.
