The One-Eyed Son

Have you heard of the one-eyed son?

On April 1, 2004, a single mother by the name Julia Abigail Smith, who gave birth to a baby boy, Felix Louise Smith. Her boyfriend had recently left their town, and left her to care for Felix alone. This didn't discourage her, rather, it encouraged her. She vowed to raise this boy the best she could, even if she had no support.

Felix was always a good kid, but quite the troublemaker. Kids made fun of him and teased him for having a birthday on April Fool's, earning him to name "Foolish Felix". Instead of standing up for himself, he chose to prove these kids' rumors correct, and began acting foolish and crazy. He gave up caring for rules or regular standards, and began acting like a wild animal. That soon would lead to chaos.

On April 1, 2017, Felix was celebrating his 13th birthday. He invited very few people to his celebration: his mother, his best friend Cory, his stepfather, and his grandmother. It was all running smoothly at the start, nothing seemed to be going wrong, but when it was time to open his birthday gifts, something awful happened. Cory insisted that Felix opened his gift first, and Felix agreed, but as soon as he opened the box and looked inside, a blade flew out and sliced Felix's left eye. As Felix screamed and cried in pain, he panicked and looked around with his remaining right eye, seeing all his classmates gathered around him, laughing and pointing. As much as his eye hurt, his pride and trust hurt more, as he saw that his stepfather had supported the "prank". His mother, on the other hand, completely lost it.

She made everyone leave except for Felix's grandmother, and began consoling Felix. The grandmother called 911 as Julia tried to clean his face up. Felix cried as he replayed the incident in his head, angry at himself for being tricked so easily. Julia continued to console him, until Felix began sobbing and asked a question Julia was not ready to hear:

" Mom... am I so bad? Did I deserve this?"

Julia cried as she heard these words escape her dear son's mouth, and hugged him close. She couldn't bear the idea that her son felt this way. That day changed everything.

Felix was withdrawn from school and had his eye bandaged for months. He eventually received a report stating that he would be permanently blind in his left eye. His mother was worst than ever after hearing that. Julia felt like a failure, like she had let her son down. She vowed to protect him and give him a good life, and in her self-doubt and pain, she stabbed herself on March 30, 2018. Felix woke up the next  morning, wanting to spend his 14th birthday with his mother, but that seemed impossible now.

He walked into her room, seeing her lifeless body on the floor and bleeding out. He began sobbing as he rushed to her body, shaking it to bring her back to life. Nothing. His mother was long gone, and he wouldn't be getting her back. In his grief, he grasped her hand in his own, kissed the pale forehead of his beloved mother, and stabbed himself. He let out one last sigh as he dropped to the floor, holding tightly to his mother's hand.

So if you are alone in your room and see a teenage boy in the dark, move to his right side where he can see you. He will ask you, "Have you seen my mother? Is she to my left?", and respond in a calm tone with, "No, but she will always see you." He may hug you then, before he vanishes into the air.
