people who say "the [decade]s were a better time" rant

let me clear some things up. i am an early 2010s kid, born in 06. yes i know a lot of people on spacehey resent children, and feel free to resent me, but im here. do i feel nostalgia? only for a few things (my childhood was very unhappy so i only get happy from a few things but thats besides the point). do i think the 2000s/early 2010s were a better time in general? absolutely not.

there were plenty of things that were better about it, at least from what i remember. but there were plenty of things that were worse. people just choose to ignore the bad things and focus on the good things, which i mean, its ok if you dont want to think about it, but dont try to act like it was never a thing. sure, social media was more escapable then, but do you not remember how many gore sites and shock sites there were? is that something youre nostalgic for? gore and snuff? it was far more easily accessible back then from what i remember, which meant literal children saw a lot more of it. now people seem to show it off as a badge of honour that they saw some guy getting his head crushed when they were 10. its not something to be proud of, its not something to be ashamed of but imagine if your child bragged about seeing some guy being castrated by pit bulls when they were little. wouldnt you feel ashamed of yourself? i saw gore when i was little too! do i brag about it? no! this turned into a completely different rant all of a sudden so im gonna get back on topic; the 2000s were not a wonderful magical time.

now lets talk about even earlier. 90s, 80s, some of you may even be old enough to remember the 70s. i wasnt around to live in those times so maybe i just "dont understand", but fuck it im gonna rant about it anyway. they were not that amazing. amazing for you, maybe, but not in general. child beating was a lot more acceptable (thats a whole other rant but oh well). homophobia was a lot more widespread. people did a lot more dangerous things. the highest rate of crime in the united states was in 1991, and the homicide rate is declining quite a bit (sources: https://ourworldindata.org/homicides, https://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm). on top of all this, a full on war was happening in the balkans. was such a better time, wasnt it.

am i saying you cant feel that the decade was better for you personally? not at all. im saying dont act like it was a better time in general, it most certainly was not.
