Okay so context. I've never played a Souls game before, and to be totally honest with you...I've never really been all that tempted. I understood why people liked them, but they just never appealed to me. I'm not against challenging games, I've beaten Cuphead and it's one of my favourite games of all time, but for whatever reason the thought of banging my head against the Souls formula just never took. Until now.
I'm 56 hours into Elden Ring, and honestly, I'm just loving my time with it. Sure, it's challenging, but unlike other games in the Souls genre, I've never felt like I had no choice but to continue fighting; if a boss it too hard I can just walk away, do something else and come back later. That freedom is extremely powerful for a player like me.
Again. 56 hours in around two weeks after becoming a Dad for a second time 3 months ago; my time is extremely valuable to me. That in itself is a testament to just how much I adore this game.
