Fire Survivor

This is a little bit of a long blog post, but I want you to know the full story. This was the hardest thing for my to type, so you can imagine how hard it would be to verbally say this in my stream today.

So, on April 19th 2022 my family went through a horrid event. At approximately 11PM Central time, I was siting in my room on my bed about to go to bed. I had just gotten off the phone with Dovah (my boyfriend) and all of a sudden I hear a bunch of popping noise. I figured it was our cat Nimbus playing with the counters again, so I chalked it up to that. Then as I was laying down, I smelled burning plastic. My brain immediately said "oh no" and I ran to the kitchen. There I saw fire floating above my counter top. It wasn't very big, it was literally about the size of my hand. So I figured I could turn my sink on and use the spray hose to put it out since it extended out. I grab it, pull it out and flip the sink on and just a few dribbles sprinkle out. I immediately went into gtfo mode and screamed for my daughter to grab her dog and get out. I was able to retrieve one of our other dogs and get her outside, but before I could go back for the others, the fire had spread too much so I wasn't able to go in and get the rest of my pets. I began beating on the door of my neighbors across the way, begging and pleading while black smoke barreled out of the front door that they would hear me and get out. I beat the door so hard my hand began to bruise. I finally gave up and tried to turn back to go in and get them since the fire was still isolated to the kitchen, but the black smoke was so thick, I couldn't make it past the threshold. I finally ran down the stairs to join my daughter who was screaming and crying at the top of her lungs because she thought I had said to grab her dog and put her in the kennel. So her dog was also locked in a kennel in her room in the house. The fire grew so much that the windows in the front of the apartment, the living room/dining room, blew. Flames flew out of where the glass use to be, and has caught the tree in front on fire.

Fire fighters finally made it there, they finally got it under control, and we found my GSD who was the one I was able to grab and bring out since she was the closest to the bedroom door. One by one I see them bring out my daughters dog Prim, and performing CPR trying to save her life, but to no avail. They finally pronounced her dead first. I still had Dobby the Australian Kelpie (my ESA), Nimbus the Balinese, Sora the Black Domestic House Cat, and Fenrir the Tabby in there. My heart knew none of them made it if Primrose didn't make it. She was the furthest one from the kitchen. I got a call from my boyfriend on my neighbors phone because my phone was in the house so I had to use her phone to call him, and he said he was there but he couldn't get into the complex because they wouldn't let him in because of all the firetrucks. I then see them bringing Dobby out so I hang up with him, and look over and see that Dobby is just laying there on the ground. I see them put a mask over his face and rubbing his chest, and I sit here and I pray. I pray to whoever is up there in the universe to not lose anymore. Please let him be okay, please let the others be okay. I am then told he didn't make it. My heart fell even deeper. A neighbor volunteered to carry her to him, and shortly after he had left, my boyfriend rounds the corner having ran 3 blocks to get there. I jump into his arms crying, and he breaks down. As I turn to show him which way the neighbor had went to find my boyfriend, I see Dobby's head lifted up. I asked that same officer if maybe he had heard wrong and he goes "I must have". My boyfriend said he would go find the neighbor, that I need to go with Minion.

The girlfriend of the neighbor who carried off Prim said that Gretchen my other dog could stay in their room for the time being to stay safe. So after I guided her in, I saw in the light that she had some injuries from the fire that were minor, but we needed to get looked at later. I load into an ambulance to go with my daughter to the hospital, just to get her checked out just in case. While I am there my father thankfully showed up, and I was able to use his phone to talk to my boyfriend with updates. They had found Fenrir and Sora, but unfortunately they did not make it. So my boyfriend had Prim and them in the backseat of my car. All three died from the smoke, not from being burned. So we take solace in the fact that they basically went to sleep and felt no pain. Nimbus however still hadn't been found and he said "I am not leaving until they do find him, regardless of how they find him, because he is family. I will NOT abandon family!" He also found out that Dobby did indeed die, and was dead for about 30 seconds, but somehow, someway, he was alive again. After coming back from finding the neighbor carrying Prim, he saw Dobby with some firefighters by the front door of our downstairs neighbor, cowering and hiding. Thankfully they let him go over there to get Dobby, who immediately calmed down a bit and went with my boyfriend to the car. What saved him was his spot that he always went to when he was scared, which was under my desk where I sat when I was streaming. Where my PC was.

Everything we owned, is gone. The only physical objects they were able to retrieve were my cell phone because it was bundled up in blankets that were covered on the outer layer in water and soot, our PC which was on the farthest corner of our bedroom from the fire, and his console which was in the opposite farthest corner from the fire. There was one other thing but I will describe that in a moment. The kitchen, living room, dining room, dry bar, front hall, front door, front closet, second bathroom, our closet, my daughters closet, and my bathroom were completely burned to a crisp. Only thing left were the frame, and they were blacker than black. My bedroom and minions bedroom are covered in soot, and water. Not just from the fire fighters, but from the fact that my washer pipes in the wall exploded during all of it, and flooded the entire back half of the apartment. I think that was the only reasons the fire didn't touch our bedrooms.

Keep in mind the part where I pointed out the dry bar, which was maybe 15 feet from the start of the fire, and about 5 feet from the front door. In said dry bar area, there was metal and glass shelves. Somehow, someway, the only thing that survived in that entire area, was a wooden urn that held the ashes of a cat we owned a couple of years prior that died of a liver issue. Minions trophies from cheer, our important documents in a folder in the drawer, gone. Kitara's urn, while burned and looks like charcoal, is still somehow someway here. It now sits in the top of our closet here in the hotel.

Nimbus to this day has yet to be found. The fire marshal has went through the entire apartment and says there is no sign of him, not even remains. So what we are thinking happened to him was since I left the front door open, he ran out while I was bringing Gretchen outside. These past few weeks I have spent so much time on the phone, reliving everything every single day to tell the story over and over again to everyone from the fire investigator, to lawyers. We are staying in a hotel for the time being, and are hoping to save enough money to put towards a down payment on a low income apartment close by to his post, but it has been really hard.

We currently have a GoFundMe that was set up by his mother, and I have CashApp and PayPal if you are able to donate. Please, I do not like asking for help, and especially not for money. But right now, my entire family is having to start over from scratch, with broken hearts and souls. We have troubles sleeping, I can't even make toast without going into a panic attack. Any and all help, even if just a dollar, is more than appreciated. Thank you for reading my story, and for being amazing.
