I’m excited for tomorrow because I have two free hours at school, and I’m going to be able to search for the little jumping spiders that are hiding in the walls! Last time I could spot 6 of them and they were so, so beautiful! The ones at partner’s old house, and around mine, are typically dark brown. These ones were lighter, yellowish, some of them with interesting patterns and really dark or really white clericherae. I think yellow jumping spiders are my favourite.
I want to catch one for myself to take care of and observe, but I will need a new method - the walls are made of porous rocks, so they hide easily, and I noticed that’s where they make their nests as well. Just using a jar doesn’t work because it doesn’t sit evenly and they crawl underneath, so I’m thinking of using a big but soft paintbrush and a sheet of paper as a funnel to the jar may do the trick. Maybe I should put cotton at the bottom of the jar so if it falls, it doesn’t end up hurt. I wonder if this will work, as they jump pretty far and fast, it may not.
So, yeah. Tomorrow’s jumping spider catching day. Oh, the free hours are right before a class, so if I catch one, bet I’ll have the jar on top of my desk… luckily this teacher doesn’t really teach, just sits there, plays music on YouTube and talks about her life. So the spider won’t distract me from learning anything important - in any case I can draw it for a project.
