Thoughts on Forgiveness

This morning, I've been thinking about forgiveness. Some might not realize that sometimes forgiveness is more about healing than turning the other cheek. When one is dealing with the trauma resulting from abuse perpetrated against them by someone else, forgiving your abuser is not just about "moving on" or some other bullshit therapeutic exercise. Forgiveness can also be an exercise in properly placing full responsibility for the abuse suffered on the abuser. If you have been subjected to abuse and have difficulty seeing your way to forgiveness for your abuser, chances are you also still feel some ultimate responsibility for said abuse. This is not true. You are never responsible for the actions other choose to take against you. Free yourself. Love yourself. Take care of yourself, and each other.
