edge of the salt

I'm going to be on the road with my aunt and a bunch of her co-workers in a few hours. It's going to be somewhere near the beach. I hope our resort is good, I really need one of those complementary toothbrushes since I forgot to bring my own. It's been four or five years since I last went to the beach. Neither were even for leisure because we were visiting the province to pay respects to some of our relatives who died. It's not as dismal as it sounds, believe me. I was pretty aloof during those years, so I knew when to care and not to care. To be fair, there were several unresolved family issues between our side of the family and theirs, so I can't really blame myself for how I felt about them.

Most of the memories I remember vividly were of times my aunt and I went out for walks on the beach or in town. The coarse sand beneath my feet and the water eventually washing it away when I'm standing by the edge of the beach. Those moments were what I chose to cherish. And rightfully so. I miss that feeling of the wind whipping my hair against my face as I walk just on the edge of the water that I feel its coldness on the side of my feet. My hair is shorter now but I feel like it wouldn't really matter how accurate the experience would be. It's a different beach after all and the closeness with the sea is what I'm after.

Just four hours left before we leave. I'm excited to experience it again. The sense of tranquility and silence after a long time of being surrounded by the sound of zooming vehicles and people being loud. Nothing I'm not used to. Doesn't make me want to the company of the sea any less though, let's be clear about that.
