Hatching -- I just watched it

So, I just watched the Finnish movie, HATCHING.  Here is the trailer:

I'm lucky enough to live in a city where a few movie theaters play foreign, indie, smaller movies. And if you're lucky enough to be near one of these theaters and they are playing Hatching, well I definitely recommend it.

As you can see from the trailer, it's about a creature being born from a giant egg.
It is creepy, but it's pretty funny at times as well. In a good way.

Without spoiling anything right now, this movie blends the horror of an "external" force and how some people can take it in to a "domestic" horror.
If you have not heard the term "domestic" horror before, in a very quick (not so good) nutshell, it's horror of a "familiar" setting, or "family".

So before getting into some spoiler (minimal), I do recommend it. A friend and I talked for about 20-30 minutes outside the theater analyzing this movie, and I'm pretty sure most people will  get the same out of it, if not more.
Additionally, I'm a cys-male and I was able to get a lot messages out of this, but I can a imagine a person raised as a woman will get even more out of it.

NOW THEMATIC SPOILERS***** Some from the story itself, but not much. This is what i  I felt the story was trying to say. Mainly to entice you to watch it.

So, as you can see from the trailer, a creature hatches from the egg. The creature slowly starts to act on the main character's emotions.

The creature slowly starts looking more like the main character.

The main character is going thru some, rough part, with her family. Especially with her mom, who seems to want the "perfect" daughter. The mom who places pressure, on her daughter. The daughter who's trauma is being pushed into this creature.

The creature takes in this "trauma" and slowly stars becoming the daughter. Even when the mom finally sees the daughter's trauma, aka the creature, the mom only things about "getting rid of it". The mom things getting rid of it will solve the family problems, without self reflecting on how she contributed to this trauma.
The mom is just left with the "trauma" that has overtaken her daughter, a daughter who will grow up with scars.

Now, this is just my take on this movie. I'm a nobody. But this is why I recommend this movie, it's a movie that even a nobody can get a meaning out of it.

Have you watched this movie?
If yes, let me know what you think!
Thanks for reading and have a good night!
