tomorrow is my friend and neighbors fourteenth birthday. i first met her in i believe to be february of last year, when i was almost fifteen and she was almost thirteen. my mom would take us on fun adventures, and my friend would only use my phone to play little games on it since she didnt have a phone at the time. now, she only comes to me for food or when her phone is taken away and she needs to check on her stupid snapchat. i really miss those days.
it had been months since i had last spoken to her when she knocked on my door a few weeks ago. she asked me if i wanted to go to the woods behind her house with her, and of course i accepted! i grew up in those woods. my brother and i have been up there more times than we can even count. we used to go up there with the kid who used to live in my friends house before he moved away. we once even went up to the water tower with him. my brother and i also once went up to the childrens home with our new neighbor last year.
she also told me that she was grounded and had gotten her phone taken away. she asked me to get on my phone and log in through her snapchat. i told her she could only check it every now and then. she said she had to call her friend because she said she told her to call her, and i said no. "i have to."
the hiking itself was fun. we were trying to reach the water tower, but we didnt have enough time and had to turn around. my friend kept carrying my phone in her pocket. on our way home, we started screaming and her friends from middle school walked to her house. thats when i went home.
she would always come to our house and would always get on my phone so she could check her snapchat. i swear, shes addicted to it or something. i found it incredibly disrespectful when she would call her friends on MY phone in MY house and talk to them the entire time. am i really that boring? she would also call her friends on full volume even when she had her phone.
"ready for some girl time?" she would say. her definition of "girl time" is relaxing in my room and dealing with middle school drama on my phone while human resources plays on the tv. smh
she told me her birthday was on april 29th (tomorrow) and told me things shed like to get for her birthday. she didnt even acknowledge my birthday last month, and we barely know each other because we never talk anymore. im just a tool she uses to get what she wants. so, the only thing youre getting from me tomorrow is a nice little "happy birthday" snap.
my dad didnt trust her or her parents because he didnt know them that well. we were going to a restaurant about a week ago, and he told me my friend could come if we asked her parents for permission. this was NEWS, because my dad never let that happen before!! ive always preferred to listening to music over talking,so i just let my friend get on my phone and i looked outside the window the entire time.
my dad asked her a few questions about her life. the next day, he brought her and her family some supplies from his work. they had been dealt with some cards because her dad got in a car crash and couldnt work, and her mom didnt work. it was really considerate of my dad. he can be really nice to others at times.
when we came home, my friend wanted to go up in the woods. she didnt have any shoes with her, so she looked in my closet and spotted these cute, barely used purple converse shoes on one of the shelves. my mom had gotten these for me when she, my friend, and i were on one of those adventures to the mall. she also bought converse shoes for my friend. i asked her what happened to her shoes. she said she outgrew them. i never wore those shoes because they were just an inch too small for me. i warned my friend she probably wouldnt be able to fit into them, and she was free to use any of my other shoes. she said they would fit. she tried for dear LIFE to get into those shoes. she even loosened the strings so she could get in them easier. by some miracle, she was finally able to get in them.
we walked outside and i couldnt help but worry about them getting dirty. they were school shoes at this point. why would you get them dirty? her mom called for her to come home and i asked her to take the shoes off. im going to give donate those shoes to goodwill so someone who actually needs and can fit in them can wear them. my friend would have probably wore them a total of two times and then itd off to the closet for them. it also doesnt make sense that she cant wear her old shoes which were more and less the same size as my converses, but she can wear mine that dont even fit her. smh. oh, and if my friend needed some clothes or food or anything, i absolutely WOULD provide it for her. she just did not need these shoes.
now that she has her phone back, she doesnt talk to me or wait for the bus with us every morning now. i got a random snap from her that was meant for all her friends. i asked her if she had gotten her phone back, and she left me on delivered. smh. it was expected of her. my brother warned me to not hang out with her. i just wanted to spend time with someone.
my friend is known to be a bad influence on my next-door neighbors ten-year-old son. hes not allowed to go far from the house, but my dad once saw him and my friend near my grandmas house. my friend asked me if i wanted to go up in the woods with her and the kid a bit before the whole phone thing. im not even sure if hes allowed to go up in the woods. the younger kid swore and flipped his fingers off to my friend. it was so weird.
"hey, (KID), maybe you shouldnt swear," i bellowed, like a boring old sixteen-year-old
he flipped me off. "you swear all the time!" he counterclaimed. its true. i used to swear like a sailor, but i make sure to not swear around little kids. i dont swear around him.i feel like my friend taught him to do those things. of course he knew those words beforehand, hes ten years old, but he never swore around my brother and me, and certainly not around his parents LOL. i dont know why my thirteen-year-old friend didnt put these things into consideration. she knows better than this.
we came back from the woods and sat on his porch. my friend fed the neighborhood dog some takis. the kid noticed this hidden camera and threw it off the ground and onto the rocks. he asked us if we wanted to go in his backyard. we walked over to the gate only to find that it was locked. my friend tried to get it open, and thats when i decided to turn around and go back home. just so weird.
i suppose i AM the boring old sixteen-year-old. :P oh, well. im not going to be the one to get kids in trouble, though.
my neighbors birthday
