i fucking hate charcoal right now

I am working on a still life for my studio class does anyone have any tips on how to get thinner lines with charcoal? I have tried everything but its just random. I'll admit I'm a bit of a perfectionist and want it to look perfect (which I am well aware isn't possible espessially since this is my first time both doing a still life and using charcoal skjsdghk)
Anyways any tips would be appreciated!!
