Why I Think Old World Blues Is The Most Misunderstood DLC of New Vegas

(TW for non detailed mentions of fucked up war crimes)

While it is DEF not my favorite DLC in new vegas, I feel like its the most misunderstood.

Lets get one thing straight--the think tank are horrible people. They saw the list of war crimes and thought it was a to-do list. Extremely cruel animal experimentation that lead to the nightmares known as Cazadores, literally having death camps, and regularly experimenting on people for their own enjoyment and "research." And I feel that fact is skipped over by most people upon playing OWB. Which can be understandable, as the sheer oddity of the think tank members can appear to be charming by most. But even then, ignoring the atrocities the think tank committed (and even look back at fondly) is completely missing what I think is one of the major themes in OWB (and perhaps fallout in general).

For now though, I will talk about a massively overlooked aspect of OWB. Which is how the think tank thinks of themselves, knowing full well what they have done and how that's used to create a near parody of the old world. They constantly relive the same, cartoony shit over and over (as they have been made to believe that there is no place beyond big mt), and their personalities have become a parody of humanity (its stated that the method used to keep the robot brains alive deteriorates their mind). Despite the awful atrocities they contributed to, they all treat it in such a bizarre, over the top way. It gives such an uneasy feeling--a mixture of charm and pure disgust. They greet you charmingly as hell in one scene, and in the next you're discovering how absurdly terrifying the think tank really is.

In an odd way, I'd sorta compare it to I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. The think tank feels like an AM fueled by a twisted and childishly arrogant view of humanity rather than hatred. Fated to repeat the same things over and over, with never-ending torture, becoming a cruel parody of what the world once was. Reducing themselves and everyone around them to shadows of what they might've been before, reveling in what they've done in total isolation.

And its a biiig shame that people don't fully get this. I see waaaay too many people eager to side w the think tank because of their personalities but personally I don't think that's the point of OWB.

That being said, I 10000000% think this could've been hammered in better. Way better. I think there should've been more silent, serious moments to just let the reality of the think tank sink in. There way waaay too much chaos always happening, and I think it could've really benefitted from more quiet moments (perhaps in the form of unmarked quests?).

But once again, I have only play through OWB once, and need to fully do more of it in order to create a more accurate analysis with as little misinformation as possible. Plus, I am a bit biased since I generally didn't enjoy OWB nearly as much as the other DLCs, so forgive me if I came across as irritating due to this.
