Alejandro Rouize, Formerly At Large

Nowhere near complete...

Alejandro Rouize had many talents. Rotting in prison wasn't one of them. Formerly at large, he'd been stuck in this hole, awaiting his fate. While it probably wasn't the gallows, more than likely, he'd get his thumbs chopped off. What kind of alleged master thief would he be, then?

His eyes always easily adjusted to darkness. But that wasn't the problem. He had forgotten the feeling of the sun's warmth on his face. The cell door clanked and groaned as it began to move. By his best guess, the hinges hadn't been greased since God was a child. Then he heard a familiar voice ring out.

"You look like hammered shit." Alejandro glanced up, but his head unused to the motion. "Colvin, you son of a bitch. You my jailer now?"

"Ha!" Colvin barked, "you should be so lucky. Actually, you've been granted parole. Well, sort of. You've got a visitor. too." At the end of his announcement, another person entered the cell, their hood still up. A grave voice emanated from within it.

"I have an intriguing offer for you, Mr. Rouize." Before him stood the Duke of Melphina, also the prime minister of the entire realm. "As your old cohort told you, you've been granted parole. Oh, and your entire criminal history has been expunged."

"I'm sensing a but coming out of your mouth next."

"And you would be quite correct." Even though Alejandro couldn't see the Duke's face, he deduced there was a hint of a smirk. "Instead of serving out the rest of your sentence in this atrocious place we call Haedrous Prison, you'd have, shall we say, a new lease on life. Alas, there is a condition."

"Condition?"

"Yes, and a rather tiny one at that. Something you're remarkably suited for: a heist."

"You want me to steal something for you?"

"My good man, 'steal' is such an ugly word. Let's pretend I said 'procure' instead."

"And what pray tell, in God's name do you want me to st- I mean, procure for you?"

***

That's all I've got so far. And yes, before you ask, I'm probably going to insert the name of another deity in there. Suggestions?
