Initiative is a big thing to me. It's more than just taking the opportunity to do something without being directed but it shows how much you actually care. If you take it upon yourself to do the right thing without any extra influence then you have some kind of care and consideration.
I think initiative and consideration go hand in hand. Alot of times taking the initiative is being considerate of someone else and the situation or being considerate of everyone's duties and tasks at hand. It's not thinking about yourself first. It's doing something with a purpose and knowing that you're choosing to do the right thing. And choosing to do the right thing even when no one is looking or asking, well that's called integrity.
Nowadays you don't always get initiative, consideration, or integrity from many people. So many have become focused on themselves that they have forgotten about these simple things, especially in the work place. While it's not wrong to focus on your own wants and needs, you should never abandon good practices because doing so could even block from you from the success you've been so focused on.
