Figured I would share this because who knows- it might help someone!Â
As someone who is neurodivergent and used to struggle majorly with concentrating on my work/getting things done, I get how hard it can be to be productive- especially when you’d rather be doing anything else.Â
I thought I would quickly list all the different ways I manage to focus on my work and get it done so that I can help some of you!Â
- Music. I never work without it- music is not only background noise, but makes taking notes and doing homework much more enjoyable. Why would I do work in silence when I can do it to the tune of Viva la Gloria? Think about it.
- Self control. I usually turn off the WiFi so I can’t access the internet for non-web related homework. Nothing’s more distracting than the idea of watching YouTube videos instead of being productive.Â
- Take breaks. Let’s not be crazy: I have autism and adhd. There is no way in hell I can work from dawn to dusk without some leisure time, I’ll go insane. I let myself watch those YouTube videos while grabbing a snack or lunch, or I go for a walk or head out to a diner.Â
- Involve your special interest! We all have special interests, and somewhat involving them in everything you do makes all things more fun. I don’t wanna know if Train A will be as fast as Train B, but if the tour bus Fall Out Boy is on vs. the car MCR is in? Gladly.
 - Work in a room with other people working! Peer pressure is a BITCH and trust me, if you see other people working, your inner desire to conform kicks in and you’ll start working to fit in. Yes it’s stupid but hey, it works!
That's about it! Feel free to comment below some of your own or even comment your thoughts in the comment section!! Ciao!

I've never thought about the 'substituting your interests' idea, but that's really cool and I'll definitely be doing that from now on, that's a really good concept!
And yeah, I 110% agree with the music thing. I'm not neurodivergent but when I'm in class I find the sound of 20 people all simultaneously typing on their keyboards to be incredibly distracting, and whenever I can I listen to music to drown that out. Even if I end up jamming to the song instead of working, it's far better than what I accomplish without it.
