Reviewing Awful Fanfiction (The Cringe Factor)

What is Fanfiction?
According to the Urban Dictionary...

n.

A piece of fiction within a fandom utilizing characters and situations from a pre-existing work including (but not limited to) books, television programs, films, and comic strips.

Over the years, the internet has become breeding grounds for all sorts of fanfiction, including truly horrendous works that I daresay have no place being called literature. As a connoisseur of the internet, I will be reviewing these infamous terrible works on a scale I would like to call the cringe scale. The cringe scale will be ranked out of 5 cringe pepes, 1 being not so horrible to 5 meaning its so bad I want to rip out my fingernails.

[THE CRINGE SCALE]Due to the amount of fanfiction I will be reviewing, I will only be reading a little bit of each one just for time management purposes as well as my own sanity. This will be quite a journey, so please enjoy as we torture ourselves with the epitome of online garbage. First up...
Twilight: Twilight of Sunfall
Summary:
Twilight of Sunfall, based on the Twilight series by Stephanie Myers, is a fanfiction written  about Edward Cullen encountering a hoard of zombies that could potentially threaten both his and Bella's (his lover) life, so he decides he must fly to Transylvania  to find Dracula because apparently that will stop it and....to be completely honest I lost track after the first half of the second chapter because it honestly just stopped making sense? The grammar and the spelling was so atrocious, I couldn't pay attention to the plot of the story. With that being said, I give this fan fiction... 3/5 cringe pepes

Quite honestly, the fanfic felt like a copycat of another very famous and terribly written fanfiction (It will be mentioned later in the article), but with Twilight. The grammar was truly disgusting, the plot was unfocused, the spelling was garbage, and the syntax made me want to violently scream, so it did it's job at the very least. It didn't feel very original, but it still succeeded in making me cringe and feel extreme discomfort while reading it, hence the rating.

Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles

Summary:
Harry Potter but heavily censored to Evangelical/religious Christian standards. That's literally all it is. Nothing special. Just Harry Potter becoming a classic fundie. I give this fanfiction....Pepe Cringe Sticker - Pepe Cringe - Discover & Share GIFsPepe Cringe Sticker - Pepe Cringe - Discover & Share GIFs

2/5 cringe pepes

It wasn't necessarily  cringe in the same way that the last fanfiction was cringe, but it was more or less uncomfortable. As someone who has read the Harry Potter series before, this felt like more or less of a mockery of what the series actually is. Though I understand the demand for content like this, I don't inherently like it. I honestly just want this to not be a thing. It's just bad.

And finally.....the moment you've been waiting for....inspired by the popular Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.....the absolute worst fanfiction of all time....

My Immortal
My Immortal by Tara Gilesbie

Summary:
A self proclaimed 'goffik' girl goes to Hogwarts, flips off a bunch of preps, and the rest was history. At this point, I'm going to copy and paste the wikipedia plot summary here since wikipedia does a much better job explaining this than I do (The original work is hysterically long and horribly done; I have actually read the entire thing before so I can speak on this).

"The protagonist of the story is Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, a seventeen-year-old vampire who attends Hogwarts (located in England instead of the original books' Scotland) as a member of Slytherin House. Hogwarts is depicted as being divided between two cliques, the "goffs" and the preps. Ebony and all the sympathetic characters are part of the goth clique while the members of the prep clique are portrayed unsympathetically. Many of the main characters of Harry Potter are given "goffik" [sic] makeovers that are so extensive that they bear little similarity to the original characters. Harry, for example, has transfigured his iconic lightning-bolt scar into a pentagram, moved to the Slytherin House, and now goes by the name "Vampire" because he "love[s] the taste of human blood." Similarly, Hermione Granger has changed her name to "B'loody Mary Smith" and lives as a goth, vampire Satanist in Slytherin as well. Ebony and her classmates are also depicted as attending Hogwarts in the mid-2000s instead of the 1990s when the series is canonically set, judging by the repeated references to scene and emo culture, which were experiencing a sharp rise in popularity at the time."

Overall, I easily give this fanfic....

7/5 cringe pepes

HOLY CRAP IS THIS FANFIC BAD. You don't know true cringe until you've read this. From the plot, to the spelling, to the grammar, to the horrendous NSFW moments and descriptions,  this book has earned its title, and righteously so.  If you're willing to torture yourself to sit down and read the whole thing, you can finish it in about three or four hours. I've done it before, walking away from the experience a changed person. I'm not sure if it's for the better or the worst, but I know for sure that it's changed me. With that being said, this fanfiction, in all its crazy weirdness, holds a special place in my heart. Aside from being one of the classic staples of the internet, there is an art to creating something that horrendous, and My Immortal goes above and beyond in that regard. It's so bad, that it's good and I can't help but love it.

Overall....
The internet is a weird place, and I think a couple of my brain cells died doing this. I hope you guys enjoyed nonetheless. Thank you for reading, and I hope none of you EVER subject yourselves to the garbage I had to witness. Have a lovely day :)
