what i've been listening to/watching/reading

eyyy decided to do some more music recs, but decided to put in some book/movie/show recs in too, to make it more interesting or smthn! as always, feel free to suggest your own favorite artists/shows/etc in the comments, i always love to check new stuff out :DD

music:
- judas (the reverent marigold)
yo, this song,,,, (desperately trying to articulate my feelings instead of just smashing my face into my keyboard) is so good???? anyway i'm a sucker for anything mythology related (counting christianity in that, i'm pretty sure) with bonus points if its gay (see the jcs movie rec later in this post), and this song is an absolute banger even if you don't pay attention to the lyrics. makes me want to cry in the best way.

- sovietwave compilation (best of 2018)
been listening to a lot of sovietwave recently, the vibes r always awesome, but this compilation is probably my favorite i've found so far!! usually listen to this or a breakcore playlist while i'm gaming/studying to keep make my mind distracted and it absolutely works, at least with this compilation. if ur more interested in what sovietwave is, i'd also recommend checking this video essay out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EaY4sfNULY, it's really good!

- malmo (mook)
haha song i found through tiktok that actually rocks (usually w songs i find on tt the rest of the song falls flat compared to the viral part, but this song almost feels the opposite). the vibes are immaculate, i want this played at my funeral.

- connections and feelings (twinkle park)
dude!!! new twinkle park album!!! and it's super long!!! actually put this on while typing this post out, all the tracks are absolute bangers. can never recommend twinkle park or hazel's video essays enough, her stuff is always awesome.

movies:
- jesus christ superstar
hey look, a seasonal pick (happy holidays, btw)! growing up in a vaguely christain household, watching this and eating candy out of plastic eggs was the extent of our easter celebrations, but this musical still rocks. (kind of uncanny to see ted neeley as jc since i've been listening to ulysses the concert for the last couple months and my brain still categorizes his voice as ulysses hghgh) either way, i'm very not a christian but would still recomend this musical/movie because the songs r swag and it's also kinda gay?? bro?

- ciao professore!
think the school of rock except it's italian, the teacher is legit and the school is the one faking it. you can definitely tell its old (slurs are used multiple times and there are just some,,, weird? scenes), but its overall pretty sweet and a chill watch if small children swearing like italian sailors is funny to you.

shows:
- komi can't communicate
okay this one is pretty well known i think (first season came out last year, took me until now to actually pick it up tho--), but pretty girl struggles to communicate with ppl! the art/animation in this show is absolutely amazing (haha perhaps rgu has slightly lowered my standards because i'm still expecting 90s level of quality when its been 30 years and technology has, indeed, improved quite a lot), and the comedy is usually pretty enjoyable! comedies are a lot nicer to my brain then psychological shows, so i appreciate that i don't have to pay attention 100%, it's pretty funny most of the time, too.

- sonny boy
another 2021 show (really? i thought it was older). remember how i said i prefer comedies to shows that make me think? well this show is so intricate i simply gave up on trying to understand it and now i can watch it without a headache :D the art here is also incredible, (better than komi, if u ask me, tho in a very different way), the colors are a lot flatter than komi, but the color palette, quality of animation, and weird things that happen make it go above and beyond. not really sure how to summarize this one, but google calls it a "sci-fi rendition of lord of the flies" so do with that what u will, really good!!! originally found it through the ost (which is a banger) and was expecting a slice of life or smthn, not an insane surreal art experience

books:
- the expanse series (james s. a. correy)
currently on the sixth volume of this baby (there's also an amazon series u can watch, though it recently ended :/ the show was my gateway to the novel series, and they're different enough that i'd recommend watching both! the end of the show is quite abrupt, enough that i definitely needed to continue the series to get a more satisfying ending tho) it's sci fi, though the less explored "before we got to interstellar travel" (though there is interstellar travel eventually), pretty nice! the worldbuilding is pretty good, and its overall an enjoyable read/watch

- frankenstein (mary shelley)
yeah, you might not have heard of this one, it's pretty underground,,, i kid, i kid, honestly not sure why it took me this long to read this, but it was an absolute banger. thank you, school, for once. the writing is nice, and there are hella gay undertones? constantly? curse you, mrs. english teacher for not letting us choose our own essay themes because i promise you i could've written 10+ pages on the homosexual themes of frankenstein. regardless, it's a classic and nice monster/psychological read

- grendel (john gardener)
another read from school (though we only had to read 3 chapters and i decided to check it out from the library to read the rest), a retelling of beowulf from grendel's pov! it's really well written, highly recommend it! it makes me feel things and also has the same taste as all my favorite meloncholic, anemoic songs that i don't think i've ever found in any other book

aaannndd that's it for now. writing these posts out is really fun, i get to ramble about things i enjoy and not really care what anyone else thinks. tell me how u feel about any of the media i mentioned, and/or talk about whatever you've been reading/watching/listening to recently in the comments!!!

have a wonderful day <33
