My many hyperfixations (pt.2)

In the last part, we discussed my fixations on Michael Jackson, bandom culture (mostly P!ATD and MCR), and Thomas Sanders.

The COVID era seemed to make me fixate even more on things. There was so little I could do and everything was so disappointing, and being online distracted me from the Dante's Inferno that the world seemed to be in.

When my bandom fixation came back, there were some key changes. First of all, Brendon Urie was in the middle of a huge controversy, so I didn't like him anymore. So any Panic! things I liked were all Ryan and Jon related. Second of all, I was on bandom Twitter, not Wattpad (which made me a whole lot less dumb-sounding). And finally, some new bands that were a part of the bandom scene came in. Enter Green Day!

Green Day and their side projects took over my life until about spring break in the school year. This was also the time where their side project, the Network, was more active, and they were putting out singles and videos and doing live concerts all the time, so there was plenty for an obsessed teen to feed on. (This is actually where I learned how to pirate pretty much any channel online out of desperation to see Green Day live any chance that I could). It was fun, but after some falling-outs in the fandom, I moved on to Fall Out Boy!

The Fall Out Boy fixation was noticeably shorter (only about a month) but it was still intense. I really loved Patrick Stump and must have watched every interview they ever did with Rock Sound. I must have had god knows how many Patrick layouts back then. Oh boy.

This is probably a good time to mention that a lot of these fixations were back-to-back, meaning I was ALWAYS obsessed with something at one point. It got so bad that I wasn't doing any schoolwork or homework. I was flunking out of school but I didn't really notice because I was so crazy about these different things. Hyperfixations can be a real headache. But I digress.

After that one, Michael Jackson came back, but in the form of the band he did when he was a kid, i.e. the Jackson 5 + the Jacksons. Back when I was obsessed w/ Michael, I mostly listened to his solo work, not the stuff before that. This time, it was lil Michael for a few weeks, and then.... I got into the Dream SMP.

Whew, let me breathe for a moment.

I went into the MCYT fandom not expecting to get fixated. I mostly did it for fun, to see what it was like, then BAM all of a sudden I was a Ranboo addict. We're talking I hardly ever slept out of fear of missing a Ranboo alt stream. Every stream he did between March and June, I saw it. I also ended up getting about 7k followers on twitter because of it. But oh lord that MCYT fanbase was hell. SO much fighting, you could never catch a break. I thought my brain would fall out of my head.

Eventually that fixation was forced into dying because I had my access to the internet taken from me for the whole summer because all these fixations absolutely killed my grades.

Some fixations I remember as being background ones are things like Percy Jackson, Dan and Phil, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Full + Fuller House, The Umbrella Academy, and Saiki K. Those were fixations, but they didn't 100% consume my mind like the ones I described. They only filled my brain like 75% of the time- too much to be a regular interest, but too little to be a obsession, ya know?

Anyways, that's it!!! Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed those little blog entries. Ciao!
