The Cost of Y2K

Y2K is personally one of my favorite aesthetics. It's comforting due to it mostly coming from my childhood. All the girls I saw on MTV reality shows when I was younger only made me want to be like them more as a teen and now that I am one I now can finally be that girl.

One of the things I like most about Y2K is that it's very affordable. Most Y2K tops I've paid for were maybe all under $15. I spend no more than $10 on pants and I'm wearing very real authentic vintage clothing and maybe $30-$50 on wedge sandals

Unless I wanna spoil myself with a $140 juicy couture makeup bag or a baby phat two-piece set for $80. Of course, since I'm only 15 these are things that I have to save up for so these are seen as more expensive to me. Expensive or not I'm getting my money's worth.

A lot of people like to spend their money on "Y2K" items for the same price on Shein, Blushmark, and Aliexpress. These items are not authentic and they aren't Y2K. this is more of a gen z version or as I like to call it a colonized version.

I don't understand why people don't go to local goodwill, marshalls, Nordstrom rack, or TJ Maxx. These places charge the same price as Shein and even better, they don't have shipping fees.

Shopping places like these get you the real Y2K look at an affordable price. Not every piece has to be a brand piece and having a mindset like that will have you end up broke. Think about it, in your closet right now, is everything a brand name? no? okay then.

Its nothing wrong with liking Juicy Couture, Baby Phat, or BEBE. These brands can be found for reasonable prices at marshalls or maybe a thrift store but you can also save and get the real authentic thing on apps like Mercari.

If you're trying to aim for the Y2K look or aesthetic aim for the REAL things. do not go on Shein or BlushMark or Aliexpress expecting to get Y2K. you are buying the colonized Y2K you see on Pinterest. This isn't real Y2K its just tiktok fashion.

There's no excuse to be buying from these brands honestly, People say it's the only thing they can afford but I can name like 10 stores that have around the same prices. If you like what these fast fashion companies have out for Y2K thenjust say that instead. I'm just trying to spread to everyone to understand that they do not need to depend on these sites because there are better options for the low prices.
